Informed owners, happier employees.

Owning and operating a small business means wearing many hats, covering many bases, and juggling ever-changing business interests.

Employees are often a company’s greatest asset and managing the team is almost always a high priority. When personnel issues arise, they can be a source of stress and financial liability, especially when teams are relatively small. Clear policies and procedures set standards for a healthy company culture and set employers up for maintaining peace of mind. There is less room for misunderstanding and conflict when your people understand expectations and have established guidelines at work.

Our practice creates policies and procedures designed to minimize owner and business vulnerability, offering counsel when sensitive personnel matters arise. We become an extension of a client’s core team, with the agility and short-hand to resolve time-sensitive matters efficiently.

“Lisa is both sounding board and advisor to employers, guiding best practices on balancing the practical realities of owning a small business, while remaining in compliance with the law.”

“Lisa takes pride in creating long-standing relationships with her clients and is proactive in creating a protective legal environment, whether she advises from day one or further down the road.”

We have extensive experience counseling employers on many aspects of California and federal employment law, including the interviewing and hiring process, classification of exempt and non-exempt employees and other wage and hour issues, confidentiality and trade secret issues, harassment, and discrimination, leaves of absence, and terminations. In connection with this representation, the practice drafts customized personnel policies and other employment-related agreements for clients, leads training sessions to help minimize employment liability, and has conducted investigations of employee complaints regarding discrimination, harrassment and theft in the workplace. In addition to her current work, previously Lisa represented employers in litigation before state courts and administrative agencies in a broad range of matters.
