I realize that many of your questions may be personal in nature–and those we can deal with one-on-one–but below are the answers to questions that I am asked regularly about how I operate my practice that might be helpful for you to know. If you have more questions, feel free to contact me.
Q. Do you offer free consultations or flat fee packages?
A. The practice is not structured to offer free, or flat fee, services. We offer a reasonable hourly rate (prorated for partial hours) that is designed to ensure that clients are only invoiced for the time that they need, rather than spreading the cost of free or flat fee services across everyone. As an example, if a client only needs my help for 15 minutes, they receive a bill for only 15 minutes of my time. Alternatively, if a client has a more extensive need, the invoice will reflect the actual time that that was required for their matter.
Q. Will you represent me in litigation?
A. While I have extensive litigation experience, my focus is no longer in the courtroom. Instead, I counsel clients to help them resolve disputes and/or provide legal advice up to the point that litigation commences. In cases where a litigator is needed, I am happy to provide referrals to experienced and appropriate litigators.
Q. Do we meet in person or talk on the phone?
A. When an in-person meeting is required, we will make arrangements to do so. At the same time, knowing how busy most people’s lives are, I find it more efficient to speak on the phone or communicate via email as often as possible.
Q. Will you be a guest speaker to a group of my friends, colleagues or professional organizations?
A. Yes – I would love to speak to your group. If you have a topic in mind or would like some ideas, please contact me and we can discuss the options, convenient dates and fees.
Q. Will you speak with my employer on my behalf?
A. I will advise and strategize with you on how to correspond and communicate with your employer but I typically will not speak to or negotiate with your employer on your behalf. Throughout your communications, I will provide counsel and support every step of the way. Drawing from my vast experience representing employers, I will help you present yourself in a way that will be well received. If it becomes necessary for you to be represented by a litigator, I will be happy to make an appropriate referral.
